Mandala sideboard. Jorrit Tornquist for Laurameroni.
Tornquist uses a pictorial pattern characteristic of a specific phase of his artistic career, which occurred in the sixties. In each rectangle the light is decomposed into the eight colours of the chromatic circle, so that brightness becomes visible through the use of colours.
Tornquist explores an interdisciplinary path that embraces painting, sculpture, architecture, and biology, fostering a fruitful dialogue between the various disciplines.
His approach is based on the exploration of various expressive forms, which open and close, introducing suggestions, insights, and moments of reflection. Tornquist's artworks become one of the means of expression to deepen the study of color and light, a fundamental subject of study.
Tornquist explores sensory and psychological perceptions of color, examining themes such as nature and artifice, chance and rigor, symmetry and asymmetry.
The modern inlay is a mosaic of different woods freely combined to reproduce an original design, making use of inserts, embossments and contemporary geometric effects.
Discover the Intarsia Collection, a series of limited edition inlaid sideboards realized thanks to a collaboration with internationally renowed artists and designers.
The Intarsia Collection was created to appreciate and relive the local tradition of an ancient technique: that of inlay. A product designed to be reproduced in a limited edition and in numbered pieces, signed and certified by the artists and craftsmen themselves.
Intarsia also represents direct contact with simple and pure raw materials, taking shape through the manual skill and scrupulous dedication of our craftsmen, reinvented and modernized by the imagination and experience of our designers.
The sideboards of the Intarsia Collection are design furniture transformed into real paintings.
Jorrit Tornquist was born in 1938 in Graz, Austria. He is above all a painter: he has been studying colours and perception for forty years, starting from a very scientific and ecological approach, based on accurate experiments on colour, density and clarity and on the analysis of the complementary effects, according to the Concrete Art tradition.
Despite being present in numerous art collections and in important international museums, his fame is also due to colouring projects of large architectural complexes.
